Grid selection remembering

One of the most used controls in Admin Console of In-Portal are grids.
They look like a lot, like Microsoft Excel worksheets, with columns,
cells, sorting, filtering and so on.
Clicking on a record in a grid marks it as selected. Then you can press
toolbar button above the grid to perform an action, e.g. "Move Up" to a
selected grid record.
One slight problem here: selection is forgotten after action, e.g. "Move Up"
is performed. This becomes a problem when you need to move 10 records 5
times up. For now you just need to re-select all 10 records again.
Maybe we can somehow remember the selected records, like Gmail does.
What I don't know is how to clear the selected records, especially when some
of selected records are on Page 1 and some on Page 2 of the grid.
